Everything you need to know about TypeMaster
TypeMaster is a comprehensive typing speed platform that helps you improve your typing skills. It features typing tests in 8 languages, a keyboard tester tool, keyboard heatmap visualization, detailed analytics, and progress tracking. Everything runs in your browser with no registration required.
No! TypeMaster works completely offline and stores all your data locally on your device using browser LocalStorage. You can start typing immediately without any registration or login.
Yes! TypeMaster is completely free with all features available to everyone. There are no premium tiers, subscriptions, or hidden costs.
TypeMaster works on all modern browsers: Chrome 90+, Firefox 88+, Safari 14+, Edge 90+, and Opera 76+. We recommend using an updated browser for the best experience.
WPM (Words Per Minute) is calculated using the industry-standard formula: (Correct Characters / 5) / Time in Minutes. We divide by 5 because the average word length is 5 characters. This is the same method used by professional typing tests.
WPM is your net typing speed after accounting for errors. Raw WPM is your speed without any accuracy penalty (total characters / 5 / minutes). Raw WPM shows your raw typing speed, while WPM reflects your practical, accurate typing speed.
Average typists reach 40 WPM. 60+ WPM is considered good, 80+ is excellent, and 100+ is expert level. Professional typists often exceed 120 WPM. Focus on accuracy first - 95%+ accuracy at any speed is more valuable than fast, error-prone typing.
Time Mode (60s) is the standard for measuring typing speed. Words Mode is great for quick practice sessions. Quote Mode helps practice real-world text with punctuation and capitalization.
You can restart by clicking the "Restart" button, pressing Tab, or pressing Escape. The test will reset immediately with new words.
The Keyboard Tester is a diagnostic tool that lets you test every key on your keyboard. Press any key to see it light up on the visual keyboard. It's perfect for identifying faulty keys, testing new keyboards, or checking if all keys register properly.
The heatmap automatically tracks every keystroke during your typing tests and visualizes the frequency with colors (blue = rarely used, red = frequently used). This helps you identify which keys you use most and which ones need more practice. Data persists across sessions.
TypeMaster currently supports 8 languages: English, Spanish (Español), French (Français), German (Deutsch), Portuguese (Português), Italian (Italiano), Russian (Русский), and Japanese (日本語). Each language has native word lists and quotes.
Yes, but the test will restart with new words in the selected language. Your progress in the current test won't be saved. Change language using the dropdown in the test configuration bar.
Yes! All your data is stored locally on your device using browser LocalStorage. Nothing is sent to any server. Your typing data never leaves your computer, ensuring complete privacy.
Yes. Since data is stored in LocalStorage, clearing your browser data will delete all your typing history and settings. We recommend not clearing browsing data if you want to keep your progress. Future updates will include export/backup features.
Data export feature is currently in development and will be available in an upcoming update. This will allow you to backup and restore your progress.
No. TypeMaster doesn't use cookies, analytics, tracking, or any third-party services. It's completely privacy-focused with zero data collection.
Make sure the typing area is focused (click anywhere in the typing area or the text). If issues persist, try refreshing the page or using a different browser.
If keys don't light up when pressed, this indicates a keyboard hardware issue, driver problem, or the key might be faulty. Try the keyboard on another device or test with a different keyboard.
The 3D particle effects use your GPU. If experiencing lag, try closing other tabs, updating your browser, or using a device with better graphics capabilities. The particles are subtle and shouldn't interfere with typing.
Ensure LocalStorage is enabled in your browser and you're not in Incognito/Private mode. Some browser extensions may block LocalStorage - try disabling them or using a different browser.
